CNC Exotic Mushrooms B.V., a subsidiary of CNC Grondstoffen B.V., is established at Hedel. It produces substrate for the cultivation of various exotic mushrooms such as Shiitake.

CNC Exotic Mushrooms produces nutrient in an organic way (substrate or nutrient medium) for the cultivation of other fungi than mushrooms, which are called exotic mushrooms worldwide. These fungi species are Shii-take, King oyster mushroom, Nameko, Pioppino or poplar mushroom, Pom pom mushroom, Coral tooth, Oyster mushroom, Maitake and may others. These are all species that grow on wood in the wild: the so-called lignivore fungi. The cultivation of these fungi is thousands of years old but until recently only took place mainly in Japan and China. For years, people in Asia people have been conscious of the taste, nutritional value and health aspects of these fungi. In Europe and America these species are becoming increasingly well-known and valued and they are an enrichment to the range of mushroom products.

Originated due to interest and passion for fungi on the part of former mushroom grower Bert Rademakers from Ammerzoden, this company has grown into one of the leading companies in this area in Europe after the merger with CNC Grondstoffen in 2005. In the Netherlands this is the only company of its kind. CNC Exotic Mushrooms has developed a system in which the nutrient medium for these mushrooms is composed in an organic and hygienic way. A cultivation pack is produced by filling the organic substrate into a breathing bag. In this bag the mycelium of the fungus can develop optimally. When the mycelium has grown completely through the substrate, it forms a solid package (like a wooden log) from which a grower can harvest his fungi. CNC Exotic Mushrooms produces substrate packs and leaves the cultivation to professional growers.
